Profile

Interests: literature, travel, linguistics, theatre, history, cultural differences, journalism, world affairs.

Since turning sixteen, I have been buidling my long term goals of becoming a film-maker, expanding my creative pursuits through photography, by joining the National Youth Theatre, shooting and crewing in a wide range of videos, documentaries and films. I have also been seeking inspiration and applying myself practically as an international volunteer and co-ordinator, during which time I have completed my degree and worked as a professional film maker, videographer and theatre practitioner.

Employment

Program Leader for Operation Groundswell Peru

During my degree I spent my second summer leading six-week backpacking programs throughout Peru for groups of ten to twelve students and young people focussed on ethical travel, volunteering and cross-cultural exchange. Now, after two years, I have returned as mentor and leader on two further programs focussed in the Amazon region of Loreto in Peru. Through these experiences I have gained experience and knowledge in different dialects of Spanish, setting up and leading short-term volunteer projects, orienting groups of non-natives through foreign and often unexpected situations and reinforcing cultural literacy and exchange.

Beyond this, I have supported the organisation by building a portfolio of stock footage and photos and also expanding my local knowledge of the Peruvian Andes and Amazon.

February to April 2014

Volunteer at All Hands Project Leyte

After the disaster of Typhoon Yolanda, I joined the team of international volunteers at All Hands Project Leyte in the Philippines to complete six weeks intensive labour projects. These involved predominantly deconstructing areas damaged by the storm, particularly on school sites; reconstructing temporary and permanent housing for civilians displaced by the typhoon and refurbishing damages substained by a municipal hospital.

Alongside this, I assisted my friend Chloe Lyttle in shooting and producing a promotional video for the NGO and project specifically.

January to February 2014Mentor and Workshop Leader for BFI/White Lantern Film Film Academy

I prepared and delivered lectures, workshops and practical training exercises for a group of young filmmakers, aged 16 to 19, in film production and structure; career development; script-writing and delivery. This arched around the production of a short film and a series of lectures based upon low-budget filmmaking, all hinged on the delivery of the Silver Arts Award accredited by the Arts Council.

From my own script breakdowns and through revisions I located, facilitated and auditioned cast members for the independent feature film K-Shop directed by Dan Pringle. Over several months of auditioning and negotiations I cast over thirty actors from the lead to extras, as well as facilitating introductions and meetings for various crew members.

Activities Leader at EF Language Schools

As an activities leader with EF Bournemouth, I was able to develop my language and interpretation skills by leading groups of up to forty under-16s on tours around different major cities in England and through their free time as well as organising nighttime activities for adult students. Given the freedom by my management I was also encouraged to create and run theatre and film workshops with students which built towards the production of several large-scale flash mobs involving up to 800 students at a time. This led on to videography and photography work with the company also.
